Hiking Northern Sweden - Archaeological Trail in Jävre

This is one of the most memorable hikes in Northern Sweden while staying at the town of Pitea.

It’s a fairly short drive south of Pitea along the E4 to get to the parking area next to the head of the main trail. Take a look at the Google map below to see exactly where.

A steady climb up to the first plateau gives you your first glimpse of the Bay of Bothnia. Further along the trail its mostly pine forest with an impressive array of lichens which is typical of Swedish flora and fauna.

The Archaeological Trail

Watching the video below will give you a real sense of the climb up to the top where the burial mounds are located.

The mounds date back to the Bronze Age. Information boards along the way tell the story of how they treated their dead in this historic part of Sweden.

I’d recommend hiking on a clear sunny day to make the most of the views at the top.

The views are quite breathtaking and defiantly worth the effort to scale the steep boulder type rock formations to the top.

For more information on the hike take a read on the Wikipedia page [1].
