Iron Age Farm Genesmon Sweden

I’d started my road trip through Sweden, crossing the border from Norway on the E10 road.

I was heading back down south by the time I visited this historical Iron Age farm and wanted to spend some time close to the sea with great views overlooking the Gulf of Bothnia.

After a quick search on the internet I found Gullviks Havsbad campsite, which is where  I then stayed for 2 nights.

The campsite is only up the road from the Iron Age reconstruction at Genesmon. It was a must visit and I wasn’t disappointed when I arrived.

Genesmon Iron Age Farm History

The site was discovered in the late 1970s and excavated over the following next 10 years.

The site was home to Iron Age people for 100s of years, from the period of 400-600 AD.

From a personal point of view I found the site to be quite spiritual. You really felt as though you were walking in the footsteps of the past.

I’d definitely pay a visit to this wonderful historic site if you plan on staying in the High Coast area of Sweden.

For more information about the history, as I’m not a historian, have a read of this website.

A quick mention of the campsite at Gullviks, where I stayed in my little 2 man went for 2 nights close to the sea

It’s a great place to spend time. There’s a sandy beach at the southern side of the campsite with beautiful views looking out on the bay of Bothnia.

I spent a pleasant evening eating roast chicken and drinking a traditional Swedish tipple of Flaggpunsch. Happy memories!
