Visiting the traditional port of Alesund Norway
Alesund was one of the first places I discovered while researching for my month long Norwegian road trip.
The geography of the area with its archipelago and wild coastline on the Norwegian sea looked a must see place to stop and spend a few days.
Stories of King Rollo and the views from Mount Aisle just some of the highlights of my stay.
Check out some of the videos below I filmed of Alesund Norway.
Watch the video below of a short walk through the centre of Alesund and enjoy the Art Nouveau architecture typical in this pretty Norwegian see port.
Mount Aksla
Take a walk through Alesund town park to the start of the walk up Mount Aksla to enjoy stunning panoramic view of the archipelago, plus the town itself.
You’ll have to climb 418 steps to reach the top where a restaurant serves refreshments to be enjoyed after the steep climb. It’s well worth the effort though.
King Rollo
A statue of King Rollo takes pride of place near the entrance to Alesund Town park. King Rollo the viking is believed to have been born on one of the small islands near Alesund. More famously, Rollo was the first ruler of Normandy.
Alnes Fyr Lighthouse
Alnes Fyr is located on the island of Gødoy, a short drive from Alesund. Worth a visit to experience the harsh Norwegian sea rolling onto the local beach.
The current lighthouse was built in 1876 and is still used today in a automated sense.
The sea and boats are never far away in this charming Norwegian town. Alesund actually means “Eel strait” in a direct English translation.
Alesund was just one of the many places I visited throughout my month long road trip through Norway. You may be interested in my visit to:
